Arizona Birth, Death, Marriage and Divorce Certificate Ordering Information
Arizona is a "closed record" state. That means that Arizona vital records are not Arizona public record. Arizona law restricts the
public's access to vital records as follows to protect the confidentiality rights of their citizens.
Arizona specifies that only the following may receive a certified copy of a birth certificate:
Parents
Spouse
Grandparent
Adult Child
Adult Brother or Sister
Guardian Having Legal Custody or Control of a Minor Child
Attorney Representing the Registrant
Adoption Agencies and Private Attorneys
Persons or Agencies Empowered by Statute or Appointed by a Court to Act on the Registrant's Behalf
Genealogical Researchers
By mail, birth certificates prior to 1990 are $15.00 each and after 1990 $10.00 each. Death certificates
are $10.00 each. Documents older than 50-75 years are $3.00 because they don't need notarized.
Note: Arizona's
adoption records are confidential. If you were adopted and looking for your birth parents, or if you are the birth parent of
an adoptee and you are looking for your child, you will need to engage the services of a confidential intermediary. Please refer to
the Arizona Supreme Court's Confidential Intermediary Program web site for more
information.
